LAFAYETTE, La. - Second Harvest Food Bank will host its first-ever Acadiana Duck Derby Saturday at Monus Park. The goal is to help provide meals for children and families facing hunger in Acadiana. This family-friendly event will include face painting and live music by Zydeco Roux.
Fifteen-thousand $5 rubber ducks were available for “adoption” to be dropped into Wetland Pond on race day. Lafayette firefighters will use fire hoses to help move the rubber ducks toward the finish line. The first 12 ducks to cross the finish line will be identified by the unique race numbers and announced at the conclusion of the race. (Winners need not be present to win).
The event takes place at Wetland Pond in Moncus Park 2913 Johnston St, Lafayette, LA 70503 on Saturday, April 9. Live music begins at 2:00 p.m. and the duck race begins at 3:00 p.m.
With the rising cost of food, energy, and other essentials, Acadiana Duck Derby is a chance for the entire community to participate and help neighbors in need. Lucky ducks are available for sponsorship for $5 each, $25 for a “Quack Pack” (6), $50 for a “Quacker’s Dozen” (12), or $100 for a “Flock of Ducks” (25) for a chance to win $5,000 or one of 10 other great prizes.
