...COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TO 8 AM CST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...For the first Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills
as low as 20. For the second Cold Weather Advisory tonight into
Wednesday morning, very cold wind chills as low as 22 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest Louisiana and
southeast Texas.

* WHEN...For the first Cold Weather Advisory, until 9 AM CST this
morning. For the second Cold Weather Advisory, from 2 AM to 8 AM
CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and
unfrozen water.

UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed in St. Landry Parish Crash Has Been Identified

UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed in St. Landry Parish Crash Has Been Identified

St. Landry Parish –  Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a crash involving a pedestrian on US Highway 71 near Roy Baker Road in St. Landry Parish shortly before 7:30 P.M. on December 6, 2021. The pedestrian killed in the crash has been identified as 15-year old Cheyenne Cesar Thomas of Ville Platte.

The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed the pedestrian was walking north in the center of the northbound lane of US 71 when she was struck by a northbound 2000 Ford F250 pickup. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the F250 submitted a breath sample, indicating no alcohol present, and was not impaired at the time of the crash. The driver was properly restrained and suffered no injuries. This crash remains under investigation.
