Lafayette, La(KADN)-Â Lafayette officials are making preparations for the upcoming election, sealing twenty-six early voting machines. There has not been any election tampering locally and Lafayette leaders are assuring the public that it will remain that way.
"We want the public to know what we do is honest and open."
Lafayette Parish Board of Elections is preparing for a busy election day.
Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court Louis Perret says they always invite the public to see the process to ensure they know each machine is sealed correctly. "We want people to have faith and confidence that the elections are conducted open, fair, free, and honestly."
Perret's staff rigorously tests the equipment, wanting voters to speak up if they noticed something unusual during voting.
"If you see anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, call us at 291-6400 because we want to make sure the public has confidence in us that the election is done fairly," says Perret.
"In order for things to change for us we have to get out in vote."
One resident who wishes not to be on camera understands people are hesitant, however, she's been voting in Lafayette for thirteen years and has the utmost trust in those in charge of the voting machines. "I don't feel it would be tampered with. they are going to do what they are suppose to do when they are there. they are not trying to change a vote or get rid of them, or say it's something that it's not."
The polls open on November 8 at 6 a.m. and will close at 8 pm. Perret says if you're in line at 8 p.m. you will be able to vote.
The public is encouraged to plan ahead, if you have any questions about what is on the ballot for the upcoming election be sure to use the Gueaxvote app. You can also stop by the registrar's office to get more information.
