LAFAYETTE, La. – The Lafayette Consolidated Government is inviting the public a community meeting. LCG is taking steps to create extensive and connecting trails and feel residents play a critical role in planning long-term bicycle infrastructure for a safe, bike-able community.

“Bicycle infrastructure can help our community become a more attractive place to live, a healthier place to be, and a safer place for cyclists,” said Nick Hernandez, Community Development and Planning Department’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator.

The idea is to create a safer infrastructure for cyclists, particularly those who are concerned for their safety. LCG is planning bike-ways for all ages and abilities.

“This means better bicycle infrastructure like trails and bike boulevards, where bicycles can ride in a fully-protected bike lane. Lafayette needs more bicycle facilities, specifically, with recreational amenities like trails as compared to other cities like us. Now is the time we change that,” Hernandez added.

The bike-ways community meeting will take place at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center multipurpose room on Tuesday, March 29 at 5:30-7:00 p.m.
