Shadows-on-the-Teche is hosting it’s 8th annual plein air painting competition March 12-18, 2022.

Shadows-on-the-Teche is hosting it’s 8th annual plein air painting competition March 12-18, 2022. Twenty-eight (28) artists from around the country are traveling to New Iberia to spend a week painting in 7 parishes in Acadiana. The competition features a number of free events that are open to the public. It culminates in an awards ceremony and fine art sale where Judge Mark Boedges, acclaimed Vermont plein air painter, will award over $10,000 in cash and prizes. All paintings are available for sale. Funds raised support the education mission of Shadows.
A schedule of events is below.
March 12 -- Quick Draw Competition from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Artists have 2 hours to complete a painting en plein air in downtown New Iberia.
March 13 -- Paint Delcambre
Artists spend the day painting in the town of Delcambre. Mark Boedges will give an art talk at 12 p.m. with lunch provided. Artist Meet & Greet at 5:30 p.m.
March 15 -- Plein Air Demo at the Hilliard Art Museum
Mark Boedges will provide a plein air demonstration at the Hilliard Art Museum at 1 p.m.
March 17 -- Plein Air Demo at Shadows-on-the-Teche
Mark Boedges will provide a plein air demonstration in downtown New Iberia at 2 p.m.
March 18 -- Paint Out
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., artists of all ages and skill level are invited to paint en plein air in downtown New Iberia! Ribbons to be awarded.
March 18 -- Awards Ceremony & Fine Art Sale
Starting at 6:30 p.m., view the completed paintings from this year's competition! Awards announcement begins at 7:00 p.m. All paintings available for sale.
