...COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TO 8 AM CST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...For the first Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills
as low as 20. For the second Cold Weather Advisory tonight into
Wednesday morning, very cold wind chills as low as 22 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest Louisiana and
southeast Texas.

* WHEN...For the first Cold Weather Advisory, until 9 AM CST this
morning. For the second Cold Weather Advisory, from 2 AM to 8 AM
CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and
unfrozen water.

Ground Force Disaster Response holds Safe Camp training

Ground Force Disaster Response, formally known as the Cajun Navy Ground Force, has an operating base to help improve disaster response in any community. It's called Safe Camp and it also helps train people on the ground in times of need.

LAFAYETTE, La. (KADN) — Hurricane season may be months away, but as one group shows, it's better to plan now than when a hurricane is on our doorstep.

Ground Force Disaster Response, formally known as the Cajun Navy Ground Force, has an operating base to help improve disaster response in any community.

It's called Safe Camp and it provides critical services immediately after a disaster, such as food, supplies, and medical assistance.

Safe Camp can also help train people on the ground in times of need.

The training gave participants hands-on experience as they made their way through the five different stations.
