SCOTT, La. — Scott Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire in the 200 block of Scotsdale Street in the Ile des Cannes Apartment Complex on Saturday, January 4, just before 3:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames emitting from a downstairs apartment window and neighbors informed firefighters that the occupants were still inside.

Firefighters quickly made entry into the apartment to perform a primary search for victim(s) and extinguish the fire.

Once inside, firefighters located a fire inside one of the bedrooms, which was quickly brought under control. It was determined that no victims were inside the structure. However, firefighters were able to successfully rescue a cat and guinea pig from the burning apartment.

An investigation into the incident revealed that the fire was accidental in nature. Investigators were unable to determine the exact cause of the fire. However, improperly discarded smoking materials cannot be ruled out.

The bedroom of the apartment received major fire damage, while the rest of the apartment received moderate smoke damage.

The three other units of the fourplex were undamaged.

Units from Lafayette, Duson, and Judice responded to assist.

No firefighters or civilians were injured as a result of the incident.
