Checklist:

• Payroll Provider/Software

• Register with your federal and state payroll tax agencies

• Workers’ Compensation Insurance

• Employee Handbook/Policies

• Employee to complete Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, on first day

• Employee to complete withholding election forms (W-4 & L-4)

• Benefits (health insurance, retirement, other insurance)

• File quarterly and annual payroll tax returns
