Follow-Up Community Meeting: Heymann, Beaver, Lil Woods Parks Potential Design Concepts

LAFAYETTE, La. -The Lafayette Consolidated Government requested input from residents on the future of three parks in Lafayette.

Residents were in attendance for a follow-up community meeting to see potential design plans for Heymann, Beaver, and Lil Woods parks.

A look at the plans revealed the possibility of connecting all three parks. The idea is to enhance the benefit of the neighborhoods.

After getting a sneak peak of the layout, Director of Parks, Arts, Recreation, & Culture Hollis Conway hopes residents give their input on the designs.

"These architects are really good at what they do, and they come in with the idea that we want more feedback. So, anything that the community is uncomfortable with, they want to see differently, they're welcoming."

Resident Bess Foret said after attending the last meeting, she's happy to know they are continuing to ask for input. Foret believes the idea of connecting the parks is wonderful.

"Getting different things happening in those parks so that maybe you came here to start doing this but if you go to this other park then you're able to see a little concert or whatever. I think conductivity is extremely important,"said Foret. Other residents hope the park includes different cultures.

"We can do pieces of the project. The tri-phase park is already in development. We have an amphitheater that's already in development, biking, and walking trails already there. The Evangeline Thruway is already coming through there," said Conway.

The next step in the project is for architectures to sit down with the city and strategize a price point. A timeline, if approved, would be about two and a half years.
