LAFAYETTE, La. (KADN) — Lafayette firefighters said a vacant single-family home was destroyed by fire on Sunday, Jan. 7.
Alton Trahan with the Lafayette Fire Department said crews responded to a fire at a house on West Gilman Road near Friendship Street at 10:15 p.m.
He added firefighters were able to get the fire under control within 10 minutes but the flames had consumed much of the house.
Fire officials said neighbors told them the house has been vacant for several months but unknown people had been seen going in and out of it.
Officials added there were no utilities in the home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
