LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (KADN)- There have been reports on social media about random rubber ducks being placed on car door handles in Lafayette Parish. Some say this is a trend that happens with Jeep owners but one Reese Willis told News15 her car was not a jeep.
“It could have been fentanyl, it could have been poison. It could have been anything on that duck,” Willis explained.
After leaving a karaoke bar Saturday night, Willis noticed a yellow rubber duck on her car door handle.
“It was 1:00 in the morning. You know, that's not a time to be playing games at 1:00 in the morning,” she said.
Earlier last week, a Houston woman reported that she was poisoned by a random napkin that was placed on her car door handle. Willis was aware of this and decided not to remove the duck.
“I immediately said, I'm not going to touch the door, or the duck, I’m calling 911,” she said.
When authorities arrived, they removed the duck and informed Willis that they’ve seen this as a fun game that happens between Jeep owners. Willis felt that her car may have been targeted, because she drives a GMC, not a Jeep.
“You know,it's a lot of dangerous things are happening to people human trafficking, sex trafficking,” she stated.
Even though she received much backlash after posting about her experience on social media, Willis doesn’t think she’s overreacting.
“At the end of the day, it still scared me. You know, it terrified me. I understand that it may have been a game but not everybody wants to play games,” she said.
Willis warns single travelers, especially women, to always stay aware and vigilant of their surroundings.
