St. Martinville, La (KADN) Water problems are still plaguing St. Martinville after a waterline burst on Tuesday night. Since then, the entire community has been under a water boil advisory.
Mayor of St. Martinville Jason Willis says this was caused from old infrastructure, combined with rain drought caused four main under ground water pipes to burst.
“The water weight is coming down on the pipes because when the ground is separated there’s nothing to hold the pipes in place so the weight of the water is barring down the pipes and that’s why the pipes are cracking and that’s why we have all these water leaks,” said Willis.
Around 10:00 pm, St. Martinville’s Public works discovered two 6” water lines, one 2” line, and a 12” water line leaking on Tuesday night.
The city was able to turn the water back on hours later, but St.Martinville was placed on a water boil advisory that Mayor Willis says could last three days.
“Right now our tower pressure is back up to 50, which a normal pressure is between 60 to 66 but the pressure we have in our Tower will allow our residents to take baths, cook, and flush their towels. With nothing that would happen to it,” Willis said.
Mayor Willis tells News 15, the state has granted 15 million dollars to St. Martin Parish for their water needs.
“Meaning that the money will be divided where it’s needed but St. Martinville will be the source for this, because we have a great need here,” Willis said.
Since the city has been under a water boil advisory, different restaurants have changed their menu options.
“We didn’t have to close down we’re able to just serve French press and pour over, but we could not use our espresso machine without the water, but it wasn’t to bad for us. It was okay,” said Mary Morvant.
