ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. — Three defendants may face life imprisonment after the St. Landry Parish grand jury convened Friday and returned three murder indictments stemming from three unrelated incidents.

Abraham Goodley, 18, was indicted for the second-degree murder of John Q. Davis. Davis had been recently been home after serving eight years in prison when, in the early morning hours of December 26, 2023, he was gunned down in his home and died of multiple gunshot wounds. Goodley will appear in court for arraignment on March 7, 2024 at 9:00am.

Craig Moore, 49, was indicted with the second-degree murder of Joseph Sylvester, Jr. This indictment stems from a shooting that occurred on December 18, 2023, outside of Club Reels in Opelousas. Joseph Sylvester, Jr. died as the result of a single gunshot wound to the head. Moore will appear for arraignment on March 15, 2024.

Jacenta Lazare, 21, was indicted for second-degree murder in connection with the November 17, 2023, killing of Laquanda Guillory. Fifteen (15) .40 caliber rounds of gunfire struck Guillory and her vehicle as she arrived at 239 Dynasty Lane in Opelousas. Lazare, armed with the fully loaded handgun, was waiting for Guillory’s arrival. Lazare is scheduled to appear in court on March 7, 2024, at 9:00am for arraignment.

Goodley, Moore, and Lazare all face life imprisonment if found guilty as indicted.

While these recent shootings are disturbing, District Attorney Chad Pitre said his office is working tirelessly to reduce the violence by swiftly bringing these matters to justice.

“Our office is quickly becoming one of the state’s leading prosecutorial jurisdictions.” said Pitre.
