Lafayette, La- School districts around the country have started to require bleeding-control kits at their public schools in case of emergencies. one high school student is leading the charge here in Acadiana.

In the case of an emergency, classrooms in Lafayette Parish have become much safer by incorporating bleed control kits. They're similar to first aid kits, but these kits include things like tourniquets to help with extensive bleeding.

All of this was made possible with the help of Lafayette Parish Public School student Colin Allemond.

Allemond says bleed control kits should be in schools everywhere. "Knowing that these kits in all the schools it's going to help somebody one day."

Allemond believes bleed control kits are just as important as automated external defibrillators, an AED machine. "It's there if you need it if someone goes into cardiac arrest, just like a trauma kit would. If someone is bleeding heavily, they could use it, and the rare occasion something were to happen."

Allemond has been on the front lines assisting EMS professionals, where bleeding control kits were always present, and knew having them in all schools was important.

Allemond got the idea from Instagram his father, Nick Allemond, says he didn't even think twice about supporting his son. "When he brought it to me, I was like, okay, we can really push this together. and I'll pull any strings and bend over backward and do anything I can to make sure his movement keeps going."

Though Allemond's journey doesn't stop here in the Hub City.

"Everywhere in the United States should have these kits. I'm going to try my hardest and put all forth efforts into filling up Louisiana with all these trauma kits, "says Colin Allemond.

"It needs to be a state slash federal funded program for the entire state of Louisiana and the rest of other states kits, "says Nick Allemond.

Thanks to Colin Allemond, fifteen bleeding control kits will now be stationed at Lafayette Parish Public Schools.

Nurses did a training session for Lafayette Parish Public Schools staff members that included education on the kits and training on how to implement them. The Allemonds are hopeful the training session will reach students one day.
