Lafayette vacant house destroyed by fire; neighbors say homeless people stayed there

LAFAYETTE, La. — Lafayette firefighters responded to a vacant house fire in the 500 block of Lafayette Street on Saturday, January 4, around 10:45 a.m.

The small wood-framed dwelling was fully engulfed in flames as first responders arrived.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in 15 minutes. However, the dwelling sustained heavy fire damage.

The dwelling was abandoned. There were no utilities supplied to the home.

Neighbors informed firefighters two homeless individuals were recently staying in the home.

Fire investigators continue to examine the dwelling to determine what caused the fire.
