OPELOUSAS, La. (NEWS 15) — A Eunice woman accused of intentionally setting a fire at an Opelousas apartment is facing aggravated arson, attempted murder, and other charges.

Jail records from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office show Euricka Hardy, 33, of Eunice, was booked on charges of aggravated arson, attempted first-degree murder, introduction of contraband into a penal institution, and possession of Schedule II CDS.

According to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, the fire happened at a four-plex in the 700 block of Evergreen Lane in Opelousas on Monday, November 4, around 5:15 a.m.

Investigators said Hardy got into an argument with one of the tenants and is accused of later setting a fire on the back porch of the unit. They added the tenant smelled smoke, found the fire, and tried to put it out but couldn’t.

Fire officials said the flames eventually spread throughout all four units.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
